The $1.2 trillion FY spending package has been passed by the House.

On Friday, a spending package to fund the government through fiscal year 2024 passed in the GOP-led House of Representatives and will go the Senate for a vote. The package also does not shut down the border and even has funding to process more illegal immigrants.

Leading up to the vote, many conservative lawmakers voiced opposition to the omnibus pointing out the large amounts of spending for earmarks as well as over $21 million that went to "hiring additional Border Patrol Processing Coordinators."

Although there are added security measures such as 22,000 Border Patrol agents, policy on the border in the package still allows illegal immigrants to enter the US pending asylum claims.

Part of the policy adjustments made to the DHS’s addendum portion of the package addressed more “data and transparency" about the numbers of illegal immigrants coming into the country.

Additionally, the package includes "$650,000,000 for [the shelter and services program] to provide temporary shelter and other services to individuals released from DHS custody, helping to facilitate the safe, orderly, and humane release of asylum seekers and families."

In addition to not fully closing the border, the package funds many earmarks asked of different US Senators, including: $368,000 requested by Sen. John Fetterman for a podcast that is hosted by a Democratic candidate running for city council in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and over $9 million for various projects supposedly earmarked by deceased Sen. Dianne Feinstein.

Other pork in the package includes over $100 million for “training for diversity” programs at the Biden administration’s Health and Human Services as well as $87 million for social and emotional learning in the Department of Education.

This is a breaking story. Refresh for updates.
