Despite the death of the late California senator in September 2023, earmarks are still written into the spending package from her.
Earmarks amounting to at least $9 million in the $1.2 trillion spending package pushed out at 2:30 am on Thursday morning are requested from deceased California Senator Dianne Feinstein. The observation may raise questions about the process by which the spending package was brought forward.
The continuing resolution to fund the government through Fiscal Year 2024 includes millions in the several addenda that seem to be requested by Feinstein for several projects in the state of California. Some of these are paired with requests with other representatives and senators while others are seemingly only made by Feinstein.
All the following earmarks are from the addenda to the spending package which were uploaded at 2:32 am on Thursday, the same time as the bill.
According to a review of the document by The Post Millennial, at least $9 million is earmarked for the deceased senator for projects ranging from a California Indian Traditional Food Incubator to San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance.
The spending package that is set to be voted on in the House on Friday morning has raised many questions among those who oppose the rapid measure.
Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) has been an outspoken critic of the early morning tactics from colleagues and took to the floor to point out that the bill has not been able to be fully read or understood and won't be by the time the House votes on it by many representatives.
