“This morning a shooting occurred in Biddeford. A person was killed. ICE was involved."
According to House Speaker Ryan Fecteau, a Democrat, “This morning a shooting occurred in Biddeford. A person was killed. ICE was involved. State Police and the Department of Public Safety are now on scene to gather details and would expect the FBI to investigate as well. These are the details that I have at this time. I will provide further updates, as they are relayed to me.”
Witness to the shooting, Lucas Scott, told the Portland Press Herald that he saw an ICE agent get out of an unmarked vehicle and then saw the ICE agent draw his weapon. At the moment, while yelling at the driver of a vehicle, the ICE agent shot at the driver who "was trying to hit the ICE officer" with the vehicle, Lucas recounted.
Authorities were on the scene standing over what appeared to be the body of a person lying on the road. A white car also appeared to have collided with a law enforcement vehicle.
Someone near the scene of the shooting told WABI5 that she woke up at around 8am to the sound of gunshots and then noticed a heavy presence of law enforcement.
Before solid details surrounding the events of the shooting were released, the left-wing group Biddeford Saco for Racial Justice said that they would hold a protest at noon on Monday in Mechanics Park in Biddeford.
Democrat Congresswoman Chellie Pingree posted in reaction to the shooting, and said, "I’m aware of reports that someone was fatally shot in Biddeford this morning, and ICE may be involved. My team and I are working to get more information and will share more as we learn it. Please follow the guidance of local authorities and stay safe."
