An ICE agent opened fire after a driver attempted to run the officer over.
Renee Nicole Good has been identified by her mother as the suspect fatally shot by ICE in Minneapolis on Wednesday. An ICE agent opened fire after a driver attempted to run the officer over.
Donna Ganger told the Minnesota Star Tribune that her daughter, 37, lived in the Twin Cities with her partner, but did not say whether she lived in Minnesota. She said the family had been notified of her death late Wednesday morning.
DHS said that during "targeted operations" in Minneapolis, "rioters began blocking ICE officers and one of these violent rioters weaponized her vehicle, attempting to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them—an act of domestic terrorism."
"An ICE officer, fearing for his life, the lives of his fellow law enforcement and the safety of the public, fired defensive shots. He used his training and saved his own life and that of his fellow officers. The alleged perpetrator was hit and is deceased. The ICE officers who were hurt are expected to make full recoveries."
Ganger said after learning of the circumstances from a reporter, "that’s so stupid," and "she was probably terrified." She claimed her daughter was "not part of anything like that at all," referring to agitators and protestors interfering with ICE.
"Renee was one of the kindest people I’ve ever known," she said. "She was extremely compassionate. She’s taken care of people all her life. She was loving, forgiving and affectionate. She was an amazing human being."
In the wake of the shooting, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has told ICE to "get the f*ck out of Minneapolis," and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has said that he is preparing the National Guard for deployment if necessary.
Members of the Minneapolis City Council said in a statement, "This morning an ICE agent shot and killed Renee Nicole Good, a member of our community. Renee was a resident of our city who was out caring for her neighbors this morning and her life was taken today at the hands of the federal government. Anyone who kills someone in our city deserves to be arrested, investigated, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."
An Instagram account that reportedly belonged to Good described her as a "poet and writer and wife and mom and sh*tty guitar strummer from Colorado; experiencing Minneapolis, MN."
This is a breaking story.
