A shooting has taken place in Minneapolis, in which a suspect was shot by an ICE agent after reportedly attempting to run over federal law enforcement agents who were conducting "targeted operations" in Minneapolis.

Tricia McLaughlin, the DHS Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs, said that ICE officers had been conducting "targeted operations when rioters began blocking ICE officers and one of these violent rioters weaponized her vehicle, attempting to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them—an act of domestic terrorism."

"An ICE officer, fearing for his life, the lives of his fellow law enforcement and the safety of the public, fired defensive shots. He used his training and saved his own life and that of his fellow officers. The alleged perpetrator was hit and is deceased. The ICE officers who were hurt are expected to make full recoveries."

"This is the direct consequence of constant attacks and demonization of our officers by sanctuary politicians who fuel and encourage rampant assaults on our law enforcement. These men and women who are simply enforcing the law on the books are facing 1,300% increase in assaults against them and an 8,000% increase in death threats."

The City of Minneapolis said in a post, "We are aware of a shooting involving federal law enforcement near East 34th Street and Portland Avenue. Please avoid this area."

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey wrote in the wake of the shooting that he was "demanding" that ICE leave the city. "I am aware of a shooting involving an ICE agent at 34th Street & Portland. The presence of federal immigration enforcement agents is causing chaos in our city. We’re demanding ICE to leave the city immediately. We stand rock solid with our immigrant and refugee communities."

A witness told local news that an "observer" was told by ICE agents that she needed to leave. She reportedly got into her car to drive off and ICE agents attempted to stop her. The witness claimed that the ICE agents opened fire on the car. Per the New York Times, the suspect has been described as the "wife of a prominent activist" by Senator Tina Smith’s office.

Video of the moment the shooting took place showed agents telling the driver to get out of the car, with one of the agents attempting to open the driver’s side door as the driver backed up. The driver then put the car in drive, with an ICE agent standing in front of the vehicle. The agent who was in front of the vehicle opened fire.

In footage from Freedom News TV, witnesses claimed that a woman was shot in the face. A large crowd of protestors has gathered at the scene. Agitators were heard yelling "you gonna murder someone else" and "you can’t kill us all," while others threw snowballs at authorities. Tear gas and pepper spray were deployed as agitators attempted to block federal authorities' vehicles.

This comes after the Department of Homeland Security on Tuesday announced that the "largest DHS operation ever is happening right now in Minnesota. President Donald Trump and Kristi Noem have rallied DHS law enforcement personnel to keep Americans safe and ERADICATE fraud. We’re not leaving until the problem is solved." While a total number of agents has not been confirmed, reports indicated that around 2,000 Homeland Security personnel are expected to be deployed as part of the effort.
