According to Fox News, the raid is part of a criminal fraud investigation into how she came to the country. "Today in the Washington, D.C., area, Homeland Security Investigations executed a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the Department of Justice. This enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal investigation," a DOJ spokesman said.
The outlet reported that two sources confirmed the raid after Border Czar Tom Homan confirmed in September that there is an ongoing "criminal" investigation into Omar.
Last month, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said in September that there is an "ongoing investigation" into Omar. At the time he said, "Something's gonna happen." He said at the time that Omar "married her brother to try to bring him into the United States." He noted that her brother now "lives in London."
"If we actually move a case forward, it's not a political case, it's an actual case because they did things wrong," he added, saying that "there is no expiration" to immigration fraud if she is found to have committed immigration fraud when she moved to the US.
“There may be more to this, the whole family migration and possibly some illegal activity for them to come to the United States to begin with," Mullin noted at the time.
Video of the raid showed HSI agents outside Omar's home, and when reporters asked one of the agents what was going on, he replied that it was "police activity" and would not discuss details of the raid.
Omar obtained her citizenship in 2000, reportedly at the age of 17. Some, however, have claimed that she was 18, which would have changed the process by which she would have had to become a citizen. She has denied allegations that she married her brother to get him into the US.
