Dramatic footage shows the convicted killer being led by camoflauged agents to an armored vehicle to be transported back to prison, the stolen rifle now safely out of his hands.
According to Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Col. George Bivens, a heat signal was picked up around 1am Wednesday morning, which law enforcement were able to track. They eventually located Cavalcante, who tried to escape deeper into the forest. His attempts were foiled, however, by a police dog. Officers moved in, and apprehended him without having to engage in violence.
He has since been transported to Avondale police station, and will ultimately be sent to a state correctional facility to serve out the remainder of his life sentence.
Over the course of the search, 500 law enforcement officers from local, state, and federal agencies were brought in to scour the area for any sign of Cavalcante.
On Monday night, he was spotted by a resident of Chester County crouching at the side of the road, however by the time she went back to verify it was him, he was gone. His prison shoes were located nearby, and another resident soon reported that a pair of work boots had been stolen from his garage.
Cavalcante proceeded to enter a garage and steal a .22 calibre rifle. The homeowner opened fire, but did not hit him.
Law enforcement were able to narrow down the search area to roughly 10 square miles, bordered by PA 23 to the north, PA 100 to the east, Fairview and Nantmeal Roads to the south, and Ironbridge and County Park Roads to the west.
Originally from Brazil, Cavalcante was convicted of murdering his former girlfriend in front of her children in 2021 and sent to Chester County Prison, from where he escaped.
This is a breaking story and will be updated.
