The attorney general agreed to drop all charges in three months as long as Bowman issues a formal apology and pays a $1000 fine, according to Axios.
In a statement following the agreement, Bowman issued an admission of guilt and said: "I am responsible for activating a fire alarm, I will be paying the fine issued, and look forward to these charges being ultimately dropped.
On Wednesday, Rep. Bowman was ordered to appear before the Superior Court of the District of Columbia on Thursday after he pulled a fire alarm to delay congressional proceedings in the Cannon building earlier this month.
The judicial summons document states that Bowman had been charged with False Fire Alarm, a misdemeanor charge in the District of Columbia with a punishment of up to six months in prison, a fine, or both. Bowman had been ordered to appear before the court's criminal division before the agreement had been solidified.
Gabriel Shoglow-Rubenstein, a spokesperson for the D.C. attorney general's office, confirmed the plea agreement and said: "He is pleading guilty and has agreed to pay the maximum fine," according to Axios.
The alarm was pulled during a meeting on a Republican-backed stopgap bill to keep the government funded past the Sept. 30 deadline.
After the incident, Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene called for Bowman to be prosecuted "using the same law they used to prosecute J6 defendants for interfering with an official proceeding."
"Democrat Rep. Jamaal Bowman pulled the fire alarm in the Cannon building this afternoon and interrupted the official proceedings of the House as Republicans worked to keep the government open," Greene said.
Capitol Police issued a statement to the outlet and said: "We finished our investigation. Our agents gathered all the evidence, packaged it up, and sent the entire case with charges to prosecutors for their consideration."
