Patel, speaking in October to Just the News, said the FBI is “on the verge” of unmasking the full structure of Antifa, including its command and financial networks. He added that investigations show support for radical anti-American groups may be coming from foreign adversaries and that the bureau is actively “following the money.”
He also flagged US-based nonprofits with IRS tax-exempt status as potential funding sources, saying investigations are underway. “Look, the thing I can tell you is that money doesn’t lie, and the thing we’re doing at the FBI is following the money,” Patel said.
The FBI’s work builds on the designation of Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization under former President Donald Trump. Patel noted that the bureau is also collaborating with independent journalists and influencers who were present at a recent White House Antifa roundtable. “They’re on the ground, getting us ground-level intelligence, because law enforcement isn’t able to enter these spaces,” he said. “These people are brave enough to do it, and it’s helping our investigations.”
Patel said during the interview that the agency’s effort of “tracking Antifa has become so important” that the FBI has “created an entire new program and division dedicated” to uncovering the “money that is funding these operations.”
Late last year, Patel vowed that the FBI would be hunting down Antifa, going after the group “like the domestic terrorists that they are.” During a recent Fox News interview, Patel said that the agency is treating Antifa “just like we do Al-Qaeda and ISIS.”
