The result in Wisconsin follows two other special elections in Florida, where the GOP was able to maintain its control over two House seats.
According to The Hill, Crawford was able to get the win against Shimel, bringing the Supreme court seating to 4 to 3 in favor of the more liberal judges on the panel.
Leading up to the Wisconsin state Supreme Court election, Elon Musk said that the result would "affect the entire destiny of humanity," emphasizing its impact on the midterms.
"What’s happening on Tuesday is a vote for which party controls the US House of Representatives. That is why it is so significant. And whichever party controls the House, you know, to a significant degree controls the country, which then steers the course of Western civilization," Musk said on Sunday.
"I feel like this is one of those things that may not seem that it's going to affect the entire destiny of humanity, but I think it will," Musk told a town hall audience in Wisconsin on Sunday, later adding, "We've got to pull a rabbit out of the hat. We actually have to have a steady stream of rabbits out of the hat, like it's an arc of rabbits flying through the air and then landing in a voting booth," he added at the time.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) brought attention to the race, after he said earlier this year that the race was key for Democrats because "there are gerrymandered congressional lines right now in Wisconsin." Currently, there two Republicans in the districts referenced by Jeffries, and redistricting the lines for the congressional boundaries could change the outcomes of the midterms.
The comments from Jeffries sparked a strong get out to vote effort from Republicans as well as Democrats. The result in Wisconsin follows two other special elections in Florida, where the GOP was able to maintain its control over two House seats, one of which was more competitive, but ended in Republicans favor.
