The Trudeau Liberals voted against a Conservative motion that called for a plan to end COVID-19 mandates and restrictions in Canada.
The motion, put forward by interim Conservative leader Candice Bergen, read: "given that provinces are lifting COVID-19 restrictions and that Dr. Theresa Tam has said that all existing public health measures need to be 're-evaluated' so that we can 'get back to some normalcy', the House call on the government to table a plan for the lifting of all federal mandates and restrictions, and to table that plan by February 28, 2022."
The motion was voted against by the vast majority of Liberal and NDP politicians on Monday.
"The [Liberals] and NDP just voted together to defeat a Conservative motion calling upon the government to present a plan to lift federal COVID mandates and restrictions. The Liberals cheered. The CPC will keep pressing this issue. It appears [Joel Lightbound,] LPC MP, did vote in favour," tweeted prominent Conservative MP Michelle Rempel Garner.
"Shamefully, the Liberals teamed up with the NDP and voted down our motion to call for a plan to lift federal vaccine mandates. We will continue to fight for a plan to end these federal mandates," said MP Jasraj Singh Hallan
"Unfortunately, our motion to lift all federal COVID mandates has failed. It is disappointing that the Liberals are playing politics instead of following the science," said MP Philip Lawrence.
Conservative MP Melissa Lantsman also voiced her displeasure, tweeting: "The Liberals and NDP just voted together to defeat a Conservative motion calling upon the government to present a plan to lift federal COVID mandates and restrictions.
"I voted with the 68% Canadians who want to see an end to this. They deserve a plan. Disgraceful."
