BREAKING: Man charged after posing as FBI agent to break Luigi Mangione out of jail

A Minnesota man posed as an FBI agent in an attempt to break Luigi Mangione out of jail in New York City, according to prosecutors. The man has been taken into custody. 

Minnesota native Mark Anderson approached the intake area at the Metropolitan Detention Center and claimed that he had an order from a judge to free Mangione, who is accused of murdering UnitedHealth CEO Brian Thompson. 

When he was asked to display his identification, he announced that he had "weapons in [his[ bag." His belongings were then searched, where guards found a BBQ fork and "round steel blade" that appeared to resemble a pizza cutter per NBC News, which reviewed the court documents.

Anderson tried to throw a stack of papers at the Bureau of Prisons staffers as they discovered he was not an FBI agent. When he was asked for the court order, he showed the corrections staff random documents, including one that detailed how to sue the Department of Justice, officials said. 

"Anderson also displayed and threw at (Bureau of Prisons) officers numerous documents," the complaint stated. "They appear to be related to filing claims against the United States Department of Justice." He taken into custody and charged with impersonating an FBI agent. 

Anderson had traveled to New York City for a job opportunity that did not ultimately pan out. He had been working at a pizza parlor, according to the New York Post. He is set to make his first court appearance on Thursday. The incident took place in the days ahead of a set appearance in court for Mangione.
