Authorities confirmed that Reiner, 32, was taken into custody on Sunday.. He is being held on $4 million bail as the investigation continues. Law enforcement have not released details about a possible motive.
Police say the victims, identified as film director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele, were found with their throats slit. Investigators believe a knife was used in the attack and have described the incident as an alleged double homicide.
Officers responded to the residence after a family member contacted authorities. LAPD officials arrived at around 3:40 in the afternoon to the residence. LAPD said there was no threat to the surrounding community and that the investigation was focused on individuals known to the victims.
Reiner had earlier been identified as a person of interest before being taken into custody. He has previously spoken publicly about struggles with drug addiction and periods of homelessness.
TMZ reports that the night before the fatal incident, the three attended late night TV legend Conan O'Brien's Christmas party. According to sources who attended the event, Nick and Reiner had a verbal fight that was loud enough for other attendees to hear.
