They chanted “We are Charlie Kirk.”
Tensions flared outside the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Portland on Saturday as Antifa agitators squared off with federal law enforcement. Then an unexpected development occurred. A group of demonstrators arrived carrying a massive painting of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.
The group sang “God Bless the USA” and chanted “We are Charlie Kirk” as federal agents stood between them and the crowd of left-wing agitators gathered nearby.
Kirk, a conservative American icon, was assassinated on September 10, 2025. The suspect is a far-leftist who had Antifa messages on his bullet casings.
The painting of Kirk features the man raising his fist in the air behind a blue and white backdrop featuring a cross, representing his Christian faith. There has been a revival in America since Kirk's assassination, with many turning to Christ.
Throughout the evening, federal law enforcement made arrests.
TPM's Katie Daviscourt was on the scene. Recently, Daviscourt participated in a White House roundtable on Antifa hosted by President Donald Trump, joining colleagues Andy Ngo and Jack Posobiec.
Daviscourt recounted being assaulted in late September and described the extremes that the group will go to.
"I first wanted to start by thanking you guys for designating Antifa a terrorist group. It’s exactly what this group is. It’s a long time coming," she said.
During the roundtable, she recounted her many years of covering Antifa, saying, "I know their inner workings, and Antifa uses extreme political violence to crush the civil rights of their political enemies, and believes that violence is justified by any means necessary."
Daviscourt was recently asssaulted by an Antifa militant, an experience she recounted for the roundtable.
"Today, I am sitting here with a black eye and a concussion after being violently hit in the face with a metal pole while reporting outside the ICE facility."
"I immediately went to three Portland police officers who refused to detain the suspect. I took the time to chase down the suspect in the streets, had her held for 35 minutes. I was waiting for Portland police to come and they never came."
