During a press conference on Tuesday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said fellow 2024 GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump should have acted "more forcefully" on January 6, 2021, when hundreds of protestors entered the US Capitol building.

"There’s a difference between being brought up on criminal charges and doing things like, for example, I think it was shown how he was in the White House and didn’t do anything while things were going on."

"He should have come out more forcefully, of course … but to try to criminalize that, that’s a different issue entirely."

This comes as Biden’s Department of Justice sent Trump a letter stating that they consider him a "target of the January 6th Grand Jury."

"Deranged Jack Smith, the prosecutor with Joe Biden's DOJ, sent a letter... stating that I am a TARGET of the January 6th Grand Jury investigation, and giving me a very short 4 days to report to the Grand Jury, which almost always means an Arrest and Indictment," Trump wrote.

"So now, Joe Biden’s Attorney General, Merrick Garland, who I turned down for the United States Supreme Court (in retrospect, based on his corrupt and unethical actions, a very wise decision!), together with Joe Biden’s Department of Injustice, have effectively issued a third indictment and arrest of Joe Biden’s number one political opponent, who is largely dominating him in the race for the presidency."

On January 6, 2021, Trump said in a video, "I know your pain, I know you're hurt. We had an election that was stolen from us, it was a landslide election. Everyone knows it, especially the other side. But you have to go home now. We have to have peace, we have to have law and order, we have to respect our great people in law and order. We don't want anybody hurt."

In December 2022, Trump released a video following the release of the January 6 report in which he said he had urged the deployment of between 10,000 to 20,000 National Guard troops days before the protests at the Capitol, but was prevented after “Nancy Pelosi and the DC mayor refused," according to the Daily Caller

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
