Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle said that the original security plan for the rally for Donald Trump in Pennsylvania was good enough to protect him from "Iranian assassins," however, the failures of the plan led to 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks being able to take shots at Trump.

Rep. Mike Turner asked after Cheatle said USSS would have a security plan, "I'm assuming that security plan would also include the security footprint for the site, but it also would be based upon a threat assessment for the risk threats associated with Donald Trump in the crowded attendance. Would it not include a threat assessment?" Cheatle said a threat assessment would be present and would include aspects of the threat from Iran.

"Was [the security plan] sufficient for the specific and generalized threat to Donald Trump's life from Iran?" Turner pressed on Cheatle.

Cheatle answered, "Yes, I do believe it was," and added that there was a failure in the plan.

Prior to the assassination attempt on Trump, and as part of the documents submitted to the congressional record in the hearing, Iran was determined to be a generalized threat against Trump and there was an additional heightened threat from Iran that was reported at the time of the attempted assassination.

Cheatle was later asked about if she was the best person who could lead the USSS after the attempted assassination.

Cheatle responded saying, “I think that I am the best person to lead the Secret Service at this time.”
