Sidney Crosby has tested positive for COVID-19, according to a statement made by the Pittsburgh Penguins on Twitter.

Defenceman Brian Dumoulin has also been placed in the Penguin's COVID "protocol" on Wednesday. The Penguin's coach has said that Crosby is experiencing mild symptoms.

The Penguins made this announcement after Crosby and Dumoulin missed training on Wednesday.

Crosby has already hardly played this year after he spent six weeks recovering from a wrist injury.

Penguin's coach Mike Sullivan said that "I'm sure he's discouraged. He worked extremely hard to get to this point, and we were all so excited about getting him back in the fold."

"This puts another roadblock in front of it. But we'll control what we can, and we're hopeful that Sid will return soon," he added.

Crosby and Dumoulin are now the seventh and eighth members of the Penguin's team to test positive for COVID since September. This comes in spite of the vast majority of the team being vaccinated.

This will only come as further bad news for the Penguins, who are placed at the bottom of the Metropolitan Division.
