The Allstate Sugar Bowl has been postponed 24 hours after a terrorist attack in the French Quarter of New Orleans, officials said Wednesday at a press briefing. The College Football Playoff quarterfinal matchup between No. 2 Georgia and No. 7 Notre Dame will not be played until at least Thursday. The game was scheduled to kick off New Year's Day at 8:45 pm EST in Caesars Superdome.

"The 2025 College Football Game Quarterfinal at the Allstate Sugar Bowl has been postponed until tomorrow," the Sugar Bowl committee wrote on X. "We will communicate further details as they become available."

The decision to postpone the game was made in response to the tragic loss of at least 10 lives in a terrorist attack that occurred in the early morning hours of New Year's Day in New Orleans, Louis. The FBI has accused Shamsud-Din Jabbar of driving a white, Ford F-150 into a crowd of people at Bourbon and Canal Streets in the French Quarter, a highly popular and populated area of the city. Jabbar allegedly killed at least 10 people and injured at least 35 others. Police officers were also wounded in a firefight with the Jabbar, who was ultimately shot and killed. The incident occurred around 3:15 am.

Authorities said they believe there are four to five additional suspects involved in the act of terror. The FBI confirmed that incendiary explosive devices (IEDs) were also discovered in several areas in the French Quarter. An ISIS flag was located on the back of Jabbar's vehicle.

Reporters asked officials during an afternoon press briefing if the Sugar Bowl would be safe to attend on Thursday. The Governor of Louisiana said he would be in attendance.
