President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to express his agreement with Rep. Anna Paulina Luna and other House members who believe Attorney General Merrick Garland should be held in inherent contempt for defying a subpoena to provide requested information to Congress.

The push to hold Garland in contempt comes after he refused to release audio tapes of President Joe Biden’s interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur regarding his mishandling of classified documents. Despite being subpoenaed, the Department of Justice has declined to release the recorded audio, and the White House has claimed executive privilege. Luna has since promised to bring a resolution to the House floor that would hold Garland in "inherent contempt." Now, as concerns over Biden's aging have deepened, the controversy over the tapes, and what the White House and DOJ knew about his cognitive state when, has only become more pronounced.

“I AGREE with Anna Paulina Luna and the many House Members who think Merrick Garland should be held in INHERENT CONTEMPT for refusing to release the Biden Tapes even though they were subpoenaed!” Trump posted on Truth Social.

The former president continued by saying that House Republicans should subpoena “deranged” Jack Smith and look into his “illegal investigation” into Trump. He also said that Congress should work to pass the SAVE ACT that would stop illegal immigrants from voting in elections. “Republicans MUST GET TOUGH about stopping weaponization and cheating! They may just be coming for me and my elections today, but they will come for all the Republicans very soon if they succeed!” Trump added.

Luna had planned to bring the motion on Wednesday morning and has been adamant about the need for Garland to be fired from his position. While Garland argued that he could not release the audio recording because it would chill witness willingness to work with the agency in the future, Luna countered that if Congressional subpoenas were not complied with, Congressional investigations would lose their teeth. The House GOP referred Garland to the DOJ for criminal contempt charges, but agency officials declined to prosecute their boss.

Both Steven K Bannon and Peter Navarro were prosecuted on contempt of Congress charges for not complying with subpoenas from the J6 committee after Trump cited executive privilege over their communications. Garland apparently does not see a parallel.
