"I have therefore directed our Military to continue the Blockage and, in all other respects, remain ready and able, and will therefore extend the Ceasefire until such time as their proposal is submitted..."
President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that he is extending the country's ceasefire with Iran at the request of Pakistan until Iran's leaders "come up with a unified proposal."
"Based on the fact that the Government of Iran is seriously fractured, not unexpectedly so and, upon the request of Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, of Pakistan, we have been asked to hold our Attack on the Country of Iran until such a time as their leaders and representatives can come up with a unified proposal.
"I have therefore directed our Military to continue the Blockage and, in all other respects, remain ready and able, and will therefore extend the Ceasefire until such time as their proposal is submitted, and discussions are concluded, one way or another."
The move comes after Trump said in a CNBC interview on Tuesday morning that he expected US attacks on Iran to restart if the ceasefire was allowed to expire on Wednesday. "Well, I expect to be bombing because I think that’s a better attitude to go in with," he said. "But we’re ready to go. I mean, the military is raring to go. They are absolutely incredible."
In the wake of Trump’s announcement, a White House official told NBC News that JD Vance would not be traveling to Pakistan that day for a possible round of peace talks. A source had told the outlet earlier in the afternoon that his trip to Pakistan had been in a holding pattern. trump had met with Vance, special envoy Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner at the White House on Tuesday to discuss next steps, the source familiar with discussions said at the time.
