An appeals court temporarily overturned a gag order placed on Donald Trump in the New York civil fraud case brought forth by Attorney General Letitia James against the 2024 GOP frontrunner, his family, and his business.

According to the Associated Press, Judge David Friedman of New York’s intermediate appeals court issued a stay on the gag order while a longer appeals process continues.

The gag order prevented Trump from speaking out against Allison Greenfield, the law clerk of Judge Arthur Engoron who is presiding over the non jury trial case.

Friedman questioned Engoron’s authority to police Trump’s speech outside the courtroom, adding that while gag orders are common in criminal trials to prevent the comments from influencing a jury, this trial did not have such jury to influence.

Trump lawyer Christopher Kise said the appellate judge "made the right decision and allowed President Trump to take full advantage of his constitutional First Amendment rights to talk about bias in his own trial, what he’s seeing and witnessing in his own trial — which, frankly, everyone needs to see."

Trump has been fined a total of $15,000 for violating the gag order.

The gag order had been expanded earlier in the month to include Trump’s legal team, with Engoron writing, "I hereby order that all counsel are prohibited from making any public statements, in or out of court, that refer to any confidential communications, in any form, between my staff and me."

"Failure to abide by this directive shall result in serious sanctions."

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
