In the wake of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk’s assassination at Utah Valley University on Wednesday afternoon, President Donald Trump has ordered all American flags to be flown at half mast.
"In honor of Charlie Kirk, a truly Great American Patriot, I am ordering all American Flags throughout the United States lowered to Half Mast until Sunday evening at 6 pm."
Trump wrote on Wednesday afternoon announcing the prominent conservative figure’s death, The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!"
Tributes have poured in across social media.
Commentator Benny Johnson wrote, "I have worked with Charlie for over a decade. He was a brother to me. Charlie was the most noble, honorable and visionary man I have ever known. God worked through him in prophetic ways." He added, "May this be a Turning Point for America."
British commentator Piers Morgan wrote, "An appalling assault on free speech and democracy. Charlie always welcomed debate, with anyone. This is disgusting, and heart-breaking."
Utah Senator Mike Lee wrote, "Charlie Kirk was an American patriot, an inspiration to countless young people to stand up and defend the timeless truths that make our country great. This murder was a cowardly act of violence, an attack on champions of freedom like Charlie, the students who gathered for civil debate, and all Americans who peacefully strive to save our nation."
"The terrorists will not win. Charlie will. Please join me in praying for his wife Erika and their children. May justice be swift."
Turning Point USA said in a statement on Wednesday evening, "It is with a heavy heart that we confirm that Charles James Kirk has been murdered by a gunshot that took place during Turning Point USA’s “The American Comeback Tour” campus event at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025.
"May he be received into the merciful arms of our loving Savior, who suffered and died for Charlie.
