"He's a very smart guy. I certainly would, if he would do it, I certainly would. He's a brilliant guy."
Donald Trump has said that he will consider Elon Musk for a cabinet position if the GOP nominee is elected in November. The comments come after Trump and Musk joined together for an interview on X.
According to Reuters, when Trump was asked by reporters if he would consider Musk to be part of his cabinet, Trump replied, "He's a very smart guy. I certainly would, if he would do it, I certainly would. He's a brilliant guy."
Musk publicly endorsed Trump last month after an assassination attempt on Trump's life. He later commended the GOP nominee in their X discussion together for showing bravery in the moment when he had been shot.
During their X discussion together last week, Musk volunteered to serve in a capacity for something along the lines of a “Government Efficiency Committee” to help rein in federal spending. When Musk made the suggestion, Trump replied, "Well, you you're the greatest cutter. I mean, I look at what you do." The GOP nominee addressed how Musk has cut costs at companies, making them more efficient.
In Trump’s interview with reporters from Reuters, as well as the discussion with Musk, he touched on the electric vehicle industry as well as tariffs in the car industry. When reporters asked him about an electric vehicle credit, Trump commented, "Tax credits and tax incentives are not generally a very good thing.”
If elected, Trump could take steps to cut down a Treasury Department rule that has made it easy for automakers to use the $7,500 tax credit. "I'm not making any final decisions on it," Trump stated about the EV tax credit. "I'm a big fan of electric cars, but I'm a fan of gasoline-propelled cars, and also hybrids and whatever else happens to come along."
Trump also touched on Google as a corporation, harshly criticizing the company which is facing mounting pressures related to anti-trust law, "They're almost like the Wild West," Trump said the company Google. "They're going to have to pay a great price."
