President-elect Donald Trump announced on Wednesday night that he'd spoken to Mexico's president and she had agreed to stop the caravans of border crossers and curb human trafficking into the United States.

"Just had a wonderful conversation with the new President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo," Trump said. "She has agreed to stop Migration through Mexico, and into the United States, effectively closing our Southern Border. We also talked about what can be done to stop the massive drug inflow into the United States, and also, U.S. consumption of these drugs. It was a very productive conversation!"

"Mexico will stop people from going to our Southern Border, effective immediately. THIS WILL GO A LONG WAY TOWARD STOPPING THE ILLEGAL INVASION OF THE USA. Thank you!!!" Trump said.

Trump recently threatened both Mexico and Canada with 25 percent tariffs if they did not work to curb illegal immigration and the drug trade across their borders into the US. Sheinbaum was immediately receptive, announcing plans to prevent illegal immigration across the US-Mexico border. During his first term in office, Trump was adamant that those who wished to apply for asylum in the US wait in Mexico for their court date. There was also a policy in place saying that in order to apply for asylum in the US, an asylum seeker must have applied for that status in the first safe country they got to outside of their own. During his first days in office, Joe Biden overturned these orders and allowed asylum seekers to wait in the US, on the taxpayer dime, while anticipating a court date years into the future.

As for the fentanyl crisis, Trump said "I will be working on a large scale United States Advertising Campaign, explaining how bad Fentanyl is for people to use - Millions of lives being so needlessly destroyed. By the time the Campaign is over, everyone will know how really bad the horror of this Drug is."

After Trump's election, it was reported that migrant caravans began forming in an attempt to cross the border before he was elected president. Now it's become clear that even if they do make it, Mexico will work to keep them from crossing. After the tariff threat, Sheinbaum sent a letter to Trump saying that she had a plan to stop "caravans of migrants" from reaching the US. She also pointed out that many of those who traveled to the US had appointments, courtesy of the Biden-Harris administration, to turn themselves over to authorities and be released into the US.

"Maybe President Trump doesn't know this, but of those arriving at the border - which is significantly fewer, 75 percent less than in December 2023 - half of them have a CBP One appointment. In other words, they have an appointment. So, they [the US] are the ones inviting them to come to the United States," Sheinbaum said.

Mexico isn't going to close the souther border. That government gets too much money from the criminals who operate in it.
