Ukrainian President Voldymyr Zelensky will meet with former President and GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump on Friday morning at Trump Tower in New York City. Trump made the announcement during a press conference he gave in his home town NYC on Thursday afternoon.

"President Zelensky has asked to meet with me," Trump said, "and I will be meeting with him at around 9:45 in Trump Tower. And it's a shame what's happening in Ukraine, so many deaths, so much destruction, it's a horrible thing."

Trump has said repeatedly that if he's elected he intends to bring the war between Ukraine and Russia to a close within 24 hours. His intention is to do this by negotiating with the two leaders. His Democrat rival Kamala Harris has backed further munitions and weapons aid to Ukraine, as has President Joe Biden, who on Thursday morning announced plans to send another $8 billion in weapons to the embattled nation.

Zelensky has been in the US meeting with the Biden-Harris administration. He also took a tour of a munitions factory in Scranton, PA, which has been manufacturing ammunition to send to Ukraine. Kamala Harris and Zelensky met and held a joint address on Thursday afternoon.

In her remarks, Harris said "The United States supports Ukraine, not out of charity, but because it is in our strategic interest, we will continue to provide the security assistance."

"Ukraine’s fight matters to the people of America," she said.

Joe Biden confirmed in a recent interview that Harris has been involved in every aspect of his leadership, both domestic and foreign policy. In a statement on Thursday morning, the Biden-Harris administration announced plans to ship more weapons to Ukraine, including long-range missiles, which Biden had previously promised not to do.

"The Department of Defense is announcing $2.4 billion in security assistance through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, which will provide Ukraine with additional air defense, Unmanned Aerial Systems, and air-to-ground munitions, as well as strengthen Ukraine’s defense industrial base and support its maintenance and sustainment requirements," the statement said.

"To enhance Ukraine’s long-range strike capabilities," it reads, the administration has "decided to provide Ukraine with the Joint Standoff Weapon (JSOW) long-range munition."

"To further strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses," the White House said, the Department of Defense has been directed "to refurbish and provide Ukraine with an additional Patriot air defense battery and to provide Ukraine with additional Patriot missiles."

"This builds on my decision earlier this year to divert U.S. air defense exports to Ukraine, which will provide Ukraine with hundreds of additional Patriot and AMRAAM missiles over the next year and will help Ukraine defend its cities and its people," Biden said. He further "directed the Department of Defense to expand training for Ukrainian F-16 pilots, including by supporting the training of an additional 18 pilots next year."
