"So, I was able to delegate her responsibility on everything from foreign policy to domestic policy."
Biden made the comment while he was speaking about his confidence in Harris to take on his role as president if she is elected in November. "As Vice President, there wasn't a single thing that I did that she couldn't do,” Biden said.
"So, I was able to delegate her responsibility on everything from foreign policy to domestic policy," Biden added. "I just think she is — she has the energy, she has the intelligence, she has the grit, she has the stamina, and she has the guts to do the right thing."
The president's appearance with the hosts paints a contrast to what Democratic operatives surrounding the Harris campaign have said in the past, per a New York Post report from August. A Democratic campaign operative told the outlet that Harris was trying to break away from Biden due to "horrible" polling numbers associated with him on topics such as economic policy and others.
Similarly, she painted this picture of her not being close to Biden in the Sept. 10 debate, responding to an attack from Trump pinning her to the president, saying, “Clearly, I am not Joe Biden." She has also attempted to cast herself as an agent of change.
On the foreign policy front, she has previously claimed to be the "last one in the room" when Biden made the final decision in the botched withdrawal of Afghanistan.
However, In the debate with Trump, she sang a different tune. Harris pinned the withdrawal on the GOP nominee, saying about Afghanistan, "Donald Trump, when he was president, negotiated one of the weakest deals you can imagine" with the Taliban. The withdrawal lost the lives of 13 soldiers at the bombing of Abbey Gate. Gold Star family members of the soldiers have said that neither Biden nor Harris has ever personally reached out to them.
During the interview with Biden, the president told the hosts that “there's not a social redeeming value” in Trump. The GOP nominee, as of late after the assassination attempts on his life, has said the rhetoric of Biden, Harris, as well as other Democratic politicians, led to the attempts on his life.
During the same interview, when Whoopi Goldberg compared Trump to a bug, Biden pretended to squash one on the table.
