"We aren’t advertising on X as we’ve found other platforms to better reach our customers."
Retail behemoth Walmart has become the latest company to drop advertising on X.
A Walmart spokesperson told Reuters, "We aren’t advertising on X as we’ve found other platforms to better reach our customers."
The company joins giants like Apple and Disney who have pulled their advertising from the platform after the far-left media watchdog group Media Matters published a hit piece accusing Elon Musk of antisemitism and claiming that advertising was being shown next to antisemitic posts.
"To manipulate the public and advertisers, Media Matters created an alternate account and curated the posts and advertising appearing on the account's timeline to misinform advertisers about the placement of their posts. These contrived experiences could be applied to any platform," an X document explained.
"Once they curated their feed, they repeatedly refreshed their timelines to find a rare instance of ads serving next to the content they chose to follow. Our logs indicate that they forced a scenario resulting in 13 times the number of ads served compared to the median ads served to an X user."
Several outlets such as Timcast, The Babylon Bee, and Benny Media, among others, have decided to commit tens of thousands on ad buys in an effort to support the platform's free speech ideals.
Speaking at the NYT Dealbook Summit in reference to advertisers attempting to blackmail him, Musk said, "Go f*ck yourself."
Walmart came under fire in June during Pride Month, after it was revealed that the company was advertising Pride merchandise for children and babies. While its competitor Target removed some items from shelves and moved the Pride section to the back of the store, Walmart kept things as they were, with Walmart chief merchandising officer Latriece Watkins stating at the time, "We have merchandise that we sell all year that supports different groups. In this particular case, we haven’t changed anything in our assortment."
