Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine is "ready to sign the minerals agreement" that has been negotiated by the Trump administration. This comes just one day after he, President Donald Trump, and Vice President JD Vance met in the Oval Office, where the meeting quickly turned contentious, leading to Zelensky leaving the White House.

Zelensky posted on X, "We are ready to sign the minerals agreement, and it will be the first step toward security guarantees. But it’s not enough, and we need more than just that. A ceasefire without security guarantees is dangerous for Ukraine. We’ve been fighting for 3 years, and Ukrainian people need to know that America is on our side."

He then added that Ukraine wants "peace" in the war with Russia, and that the "deal on minerals is just a first step toward security guarantees and getting closer to peace. Our situation is tough, but we can’t just stop fighting and not having guarantees that Putin will not return tomorrow."

Vance as well as Trump laid into Zelensky during the meeting, where both expressed that the leader was ungrateful for the help that the United States has offered to Ukraine. During an interview after the disastrous meeting, Zelensky told Fox News that he thought the relationship with the United States could be "salvaged."

When he was asked by Fox host Brett Baier if Zelensky felt he needed to apologize, he responded, "I'm not sure that we did something bad. I think sometimes, somethings we have to discuss out of media with all due respect."

After getting kicked out of the White House, Zelensky posted to X on Friday, "Thank you America, thank you for your support, thank you for this visit. Thank you POTUS, Congress, and the American people. Ukraine needs just and lasting peace, and we are working exactly for that."

The Ukrainian leader then posted a slew of replies to different western leaders, saying, "Thank you for your support," in the hours following the meeting. The mineral deal was slated to be signed later that day, after the White House meeting. However, the plans to do so were canceled when Zelensky left.

After the meeting went south, Trump said on Truth Social, "We had a very meaningful meeting in the White House today. Much was learned that could never be understood without conversation under such fire and pressure. It’s amazing what comes out through emotion, and I have determined that President Zelenskyy is not ready for Peace if America is involved, because he feels our involvement gives him a big advantage in negotiations. I don’t want advantage, I want PEACE. He disrespected the United States of America in its cherished Oval Office. He can come back when he is ready for Peace."
