"Uh, yeah. This is one where we need to tear it down and build it back up. Um, ICE needs to be abolished."
A clip recently circulating on social media has shown California State Senator Scott Wiener, who is running to replace Nancy Pelosi in the US House of Representatives, saying that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) needs to be "abolished," and the whole immigration system torn down and rebuilt.
Wiener was asked, "What steps would you take to restructure immigration, so that our workforce needs will be met, and immigrants can be accommodated lawfully, compassionately, and more efficiently?"
Wiener, who openly praised a California street fair where people were seen nude and in bondage gear while openly participating in fetish activities, replied, "Uh, yeah. This is one where we need to tear it down and build it back up. Um, ICE needs to be abolished. I first said that in 2018, and I still believe it’s true now. It’s a broken agency that has inflicted terror in our communities."
Wiener brought forth legislation under the second Trump administration in an attempt to unmask ICE agents in California. In July, he said of his legislation, "We don't need law enforcement officers who are covering their faces, who are not identifying themselves, who are jumping out of unmarked vehicles and grabbing residents of this state."
In April, the US Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals blocked the mask bill, as well as a bill requiring federal law enforcement to wear visible identification.
Among the priorities listed in Wiener’s congressional campaign page is to fight "Trump’s assault on our immigrant communities." The page states that Wiener will work to abolish ICE, "Unmask the agents and officials waging a terror campaign on our communities," and "Make DACA recipients citizens and create a pathway to citizenship for our immigrant communities."
