A disturbing video circulated on social media captured a man in California seemingly consuming a human leg he had reportedly stolen from the scene of a tragic train incident.

Authorities were alerted on Friday about a pedestrian fatality at the Wasco Amtrak station in California, where the individual was struck and killed by a passing train, resulting in the severing of one of his legs. Burlington Northern Santa Fe, the railroad company, confirmed the tragic event, stating that the person was struck in front of the Amtrak platform.

Following the incident, a 27-year-old man identified as Resendo Tellez allegedly removed the severed leg from the scene and left with it. Video footage shows Tellez examining the leg before walking away with it, purportedly taking bites from it as well.

Law enforcement promptly arrested Tellez in connection with the incident, to which he appeared unfazed, even waving at the camera of the bystander before being arrested. He is currently facing misdemeanor charges for “removing human body parts from an area that is not a cemetery without law enforcement approval,” as reported by ABC 23 Bakersfield

This disturbing incident adds to the ongoing concerns surrounding public safety and order in the state of California.

California has become home to a number of violent crimes over the last few years. Recently, a grandfather was shot and killed in a Walmart parking lot following a minor fender bender. After backing up his vehicle and colliding with the car of a 37-year-old woman, the woman went on to pull out a gun and kill the old man.

Governor Gavin Newsom has continually downplayed the violence and instability taking place on the streets of his states. In response to the current migrant crisis unfolding on the southern border, Newsom stated that California is a "model" for a "safe and humane border." However, California continues to experience in unsustainable number of illegal immigrants flooding the state.
