A Pizza Hut in the small northern Ontario community of Timmins has gone viral after locals spotted what was almost certainly a typo on a notice posted to the front door.
The notice informing prospective customers that the restaurant would be closed for dine-in that evening said the decision was made due to "unforseen circumcisions," not "unforeseen circumstances," as is typically the case.
"Due to unforseen circumcisions," it read, "the dining room will be closed this evening!! Sorry for the inconvenience. Open for takeout only and delivery only."
The image, which appears to have been captured by Timmins resident Christine Hewey, first appeared on a Facebook group for the town.
"Might be one of the worst reasons to have to close," Hewey's friend said in her post containing the photo, which was quickly shared hundreds of times.
Even the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation got in on the action to promote its 50/50 draw.
"Hey Timmins Pizza Hut," their post said. "Stick to Pizza, we'll handle the circumcisions!"
Before long, the image was all over Facebook and Twitter, and countless news agencies from Canada, the United States, and beyond had picked up on the story.
It even ended up on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
"Well this is going viral," he began. "A Pizza Hut in Canada put up a sign to notify customers that they were closing their dining room due to unforeseen circumstances, but they made a slight spelling error and said, 'due to unforseen circumcisions'."
"I don't think that's what most people have in mind when they say, 'Wanna go for a slice?'," Fallon quipped.
"We at Pizza Hut appreciate all our loyal customers!!!" the restaurant's general manager, Marc Girard, posted on Facebook the day after the sign went viral, "and how your having fun with our little mishap yesterday, Damn autocorrect. We put up a new sign today."
"In light of recent CIRCUMSTANCES," it read, "for a limited time when you buy one regular priced medium or large pizza you can get the following for only $5."
After listing a number of options, the sign read, "No tip required," a brilliant callback to their viral typo.
