CBS' Margaret Brennan worries for Liz Cheney's safety if Trump wins the White House

"Given how outspoken you have been, are you concerned about your personal security if Donald Trump wins this election, as he well may do?" Brennan asked.

Former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) would not say if she was worried when CBS News Face the Nation host Margaret Brennan asked her if she was “concerned” about her “personal safety” if former President Donald Trump is reelected to the White House on Nov. 5. “Given how outspoken you have been, are you concerned about your personal security if Donald Trump wins this election, as he well may do?” Brennan asked.

“Look, I am very confident that Vice President [Kamala] Harris is going to win this election,” Cheney responded. “It's what we're seeing all across the country, the kind of absolutely unprecedented coalition that's coming together to support her. You know, we're all going to run through the tape, and nobody is overconfident here, but I do believe she's going to be the next president of the United States,” Cheney continued, before suggesting that Trump “has ushered violence into our politics in a way that we haven't seen before.”

Cheney said that ”any violence is unacceptable” and even the assassination attempts against Trump were “completely unacceptable and obviously should never have happened.” But Cheney falsely claimed that Trump is planning on putting “people who disagree with him” “before military tribunals” and suggested that Trump wants the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to “be hanged for treason” while Republican vice presidential candidate Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) “doubles down on it.”

“You know, I think that that tells you that you're dealing with a man who doesn't have any conscience, and the people who worked most closely with him know that, and so I'm confident that he's going to be defeated next week.”

Rep. Ro Khanna (D-MI) has complained on X that Cheney is too linked to Harris’ campaign and that it is being “cynically” exploited. Democratic campaign workers say they are also seeing too much of Cheney and are concerned that her presence and Harris’ emphasis on attracting NeverTrumpers to the Democratic cause will get her off message.

Like his daughter, former Vice President and Defense Secretary Dick Cheney is also supporting Harris. Liz Cheney has been viewed as a RINO by GOP faithful since she accepted an offer from then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to participate in and then become the vice-chairwoman of the J6 Select Committee that led to what was characterized as a highly partisan investigation into the Capitol riot and protests on Jan. 6, 2021.
