The pair announced their visit to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, FL, to “restart communications” on air earlier this month, leading to a drop in ratings from their audience. However, the drop is not the only apparent issue with the visit, as fellow MSNBC host Maddow is reportedly furious about the visit, according to a report in The US Sun.
One source reportedly familiar with the matter told the outlet,, “They have lost a lot of credibility. Rachel Maddow is p*ssed at them as are other presenters like Chris Hayes and Ari Melber. They are so frustrated.”
“The meeting at Mar-a-Lago created a lot of tension in the teams, and many other stars...see both Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski as opportunistic and with very low self respect and forgetting their values of being journalists with independence and integrity,” said one journalist with 15 years of experience at MSNBC added.
“It was such a stupid thing to do. They have bent the knee to ensure not being targeted by Trump and the whole MAGA world.”
Scarborough has said that he and his wife “talked about a lot of issues, including abortion, mass deportation, threats of political retribution against political opponents and media outlets” when they met with Trump. Scarborough, who was once a right-of-center Republican representative from Florida who transitioned into a NeverTrumper claimed that he and Brzezinski “didn’t see eye-to-eye on a lot of issues,” when they spoke to Trump “and we told him so,” according to the Daily Mail.
Some other political figures have also commented on the visit, such as Radio host Charlamagne and former US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley, who both agreed that the pair only visited Trump to revive their ratings.
Former Fox News host and current independent journalist Megyn Kelly said of the visit, “You dishonest jokes of faux journalists. What an absurd farce that was. Which one was insincere? He's Hitler, or now we're gonna speak truth to power and find a way of speaking to and working with Donald Trump. Which one was a lie?”
