"But the truth is, it's not that they suddenly saw the light. It's that they saw the ratings," Haley said.
Haley and Charlamagne spent considerable time blasting the Morning Joe married couple for going from one extreme of calling Trump the next Adolf Hitler to running to his home in Florida to try to broker a peace deal. The entire interview can be seen on "Nikki Haley Live," that will be released in full on Wednesday, Nov. 27, Fox News reported.
"Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough tore me up when I said anything about voting for Donald Trump or what I agreed with him on, even though I criticized him when I thought he was wrong. I praised him when I thought he was good. They tore me up," Haley said of the pair.
"But the truth is, it's not that they suddenly saw the light. It's that they saw the ratings," Haley said, eliciting laughter from her guest, who responded, "that's right." Haley continued, "I mean, let's be clear. They saw the ratings tank and they realized, 'Oh, we better get on with Donald Trump or else we're not going to have a show.'"
"It's a ratings and revenue game," Charlamagne said. "What I don't understand is, if you don't like something that somebody's saying, if you don't like something that somebody's doing, why not go talk to that person about it and challenge them right then and there?" He suggested Democrats start participating on shows hosted by people they disagree with.
"That's why I think the biggest issue is, even now, when I see all of these liberals, they're having these conversations about, ‘Oh, the left needs a Joe Rogan’ or ‘The left needs a conservative network like the right has.’ It's like, no, how about, grow some balls and go on these platforms? How about, go talk to Joe Rogan?" he said.
Charlamagne said that Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) is playing it politically smart at the moment by not limiting his conversations to just Democrats. "When you look at what Gov. Newsom is doing right now, I think it's a smart strategy. Like, you know, he's not my favorite candidate, right? Or anybody that I'm looking to support at this moment. But I like his media strategy," Charlamagne said, noting that Newsom is "meeting people where they are. And I think that's what a lot of these politicians aren't doing. At least the Democratic politicians, they're not meeting people where they are."
A source told Fox News that MSNBC’s employees are "largely disdainful" of Scarborough and Brzezinski, telling the outlet that it "feels like they are just opportunistic." MSNBC contributor and Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin has urged liberals to boycott Morning Joe.
Investigative journalist Glenn Greenwald eviscerated the team in an X post: “I know there are many contenders, but Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski are the two most pathetic worms in corporate media. They will do and say anything to feel close to power. They both worshipped Trump in 2015, and only turned against him when he wouldn't pick Joe as VP.”
After being called out for their Monday broadcast explanation of why they met with President-elect Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago on Friday, hosts Scarborough and Brzezinski promised to do their best in the future and encouraged viewers to “take it day by day.”
