Christie has said he would only run if he believed he had a chance of winning.
Christie, now a staunch critic of former president Donald Trump, has not officially announced a 2024 run, but many have looked at the creation of the super PAC as an indication that a declaration is imminent.
According to The New York Times, the "Tell It Like It Is" super PAC was created by a group of people who have worked closely with Christie over the past few years, and are confident that he has what it takes to be a contender in the race to be the GOP's nominee.
Leading the effort is longtime GOP presidential campaign advisor Brian Jones. In a statement to the Times, he suggested that Christie "is willing to confront the hard truths that currently threaten the future of the Republican Party."
"Now, more than ever, we need leaders that have the courage to say not what we want to hear but what we need to hear," Jones added.
Christie has stated that he would only run if he believed he had a chance of winning, but recent polls show that he has a long way to go to catch up to frontrunners Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
According to the latest Quinnipiac poll, while Trump and DeSantis are pulling in 56 and 25 percent support, respectively, Christie has only managed to garner 2 percent.
Even in his home state of New Jersey, the former governor of eight years received consideration from just 25 percent of those surveyed in a poll from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
"The indictments are making at least some Trump supporters open to supporting other candidates," said FDU professor Dan Cassino. "Christie might not be the favorite candidate for that lane, and it might not be as wide as opponents might want, but the lane does exist."
