Isidro Jimenez, 51 years of age and the husband of Coachella City Council member Yadira Perez, was arrested in February for his illegal entry into the United States after being deported in 1995 after he was convicted on drug charges, according to the Desert Sun.
The arrest took place as part of a "targeted enforcement action" in California and following his arrest, the city council member resigned from another role in the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department as deputy.
Yadira recorded her husband's arrest, and had agreed to an interview with the outlet, but failed to respond when reporters reached out to her afterwards. ICE said in a press release, "Jimenez entered the US at an unknown location or date without being admitted by an immigration official."
"He was convicted by the Superior Court of California, County of Riverside, Aug. 18, 1994, for possession of a controlled substance for sale," the release added. "The defunct Immigration and Naturalization Service arrested Jimenez and removed him to Mexico after an immigration judge ordered him removed March 28, 1995. Jimenez re-entered the U.S. at an unknown location or date without being admitted by an immigration officer."
ICE detailed that Jimenez was also convicted "for inflicting corporal injury to a spouse on June 4, 1998" after he illegally re-entered the US. He had additional convictions of DUI as well as assault with a deadly weapon in 2007 and 2023 respectively.
