Britney Spears revealed in her new memoir that her childhood sweetheart Justin Timberlake forced her to have an abortion. Spears said that she became pregnant with Timberlake's child in 2000, and he encouraged her to terminate the pregnancy.
"I loved Justin so much," she revealed in her book, per TMZ. "I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I'd anticipated."
But Timberlake was not on board, and said the two international celebrities were too young to have children, both being under 20. Spears, she recalls, was conflicted, but agreed to end the pregnancy. Spears believed the two would be married. She has since gone on to have a few failed marriages and two children.
The abortion has haunted Spears since she underwent the procedure, TMZ reports. The memoir also covers the difficulties she has had since then.
Spears didn't believe in abortion, she said, having been raised by parents who didn't believe in the practice and also offered moral, religious reasons as to why not to abort a child.
The two were an item starting in 1999, Spears was 17-years-old, Timberlake 18, and were together until 2002 when they split up. Timberlake now has two children with his current wife.
Spears has not had an easy adult life. Her finances were strictly controlled by her father as her conservator, which she fought in court. Her career has not taken off the way Timberlake's has, she's estranged from her two children, and her Instagram has perplexed fans.
One recent video posted to Instagram shows her dancing with sharpened knives while wearing a bikini.
