Jennifer Sey, the founder of XX-XY Athletics, attended Game 1 of the WNBA Finals over the weekend with three friends, all of whom wore shirts from the athletic clothing brand that supports protecting women’s sports, and were pulled aside by security over claims that their shirts were antagonizing other basketball fans around them.
Sey said that after halftime in the game between Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries, a masked woman across the aisle stood up, pointed at the group, flipped them off, and called to security.
Footage showed the woman pointing at the group, yelling to someone off camera, “You see them?”

View on XSecurity escorted the woman up the stairs and then shortly after returned to her seat. Security then escorted Sey’s group out of the arena. She captured footage of the crowd as they walked up the stairs, saying on Substack, “That is when the section turned into a mob.”
Fans were heard booing the group, and one woman was captured saying “you’re disgusting,” flipping them off, and attempting to swipe at the camera. “F*cking kill yourself,” the woman said as Sey moved up the stairs.

View on XAs she moved to the top of the stairs, fans continued booing, while others yelled “bye.” One woman towards the top was heard saying, while waving goodbye, “I’m sorry you don’t understand.”
Security personnel spoke with the group outside the seating area, saying that they had received a complaint that the group was “antagonizing them with your shirts.” Security asked only that the group cease pointing to their shirts like they had been for the jumbotron.
They were allowed back to their seats, and Sey said that “They also said the crowd was riled and that we would need an escort out after the game. They provided it.”
Sey wrote, “I do think the WNBA learned that kicking people like us out just brings more people to our side. And makes them look bad. They scolded us. But let us return to our seats, much to the disappointment of the mob in the arena, which jeered at us all the way down back to our seats as well. They were very disappointed we were allowed back in to watch the end of the game.”
