"Our apologies for the inconvenience, but due to logistical issues and the evolving situation in Milwaukee, we need to reschedule our events on the ground in Wisconsin and will look to make those up in the coming weeks."
Jon Stewart and The Daily Show had been slated to record episodes in Milwaukee, Wisconsin this week near the 2024 Republican National Convention, however, in response to the attempted assassination of Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, the comedy program opted to ditch those plans. Executives explained that the move was made due to "logistical issues and the evolving situation in Milwaukee."
The tapings, which were set to take place between Monday and Thursday at the Marcus Performing Arts Center, had been sold out, with up to 1,500 people expected per night. The Daily Show expressed a desire to reschedule the events in the Wisconsin capital, but did not set any exact dates, saying simply that they may happen "in the coming weeks."
"The Daily Show will not broadcast Monday (tomorrow), but we'll be back up Tuesday through Thursday from our NYC studio," the program wrote in a post on X. "Our apologies for the inconvenience, but due to logistical issues and the evolving situation in Milwaukee, we need to reschedule our events on the ground in Wisconsin and will look to make those up in the coming weeks."
Also canceled was "Indogcision: Rescuing Democracy," an event set to be hosted by The Daily Show to register voters and try to find homes for dogs in need of adoption. It had been planned for Sunday afternoon.
In a statement released a few hours later, Marcus Performing Arts Center President and CEO Kevin Giglinto noted that, "in light of the incredibly shocking and sad events that took place yesterday in Pennsylvania, 'The Daily Show' will not broadcast from the Marcus Performing Arts Center in Milwaukee during the Republican National Convention, July 15-18. While we were looking forward to hosting The Daily Show, we support and stand by their decision … We apologize for this unexpected change, and we thank you for your understanding."
The Daily Show's election coverage, titled "Indecision2024," has been ramping up in recent weeks, with Stewart and his guests taking aim at both Donald Trump and Joe Biden. The former has repeatedly been branded by the host as "authoritarian."
