Democrat delegates slated to vote for Joe Biden have reportedly been working on a letter to the DNC, headed by Jamie Harrison, to urge the body to release them from their loyalty to Joe Biden. Politico has learned that there's a delegate group chat where "a few dozen delegates" have begun "organizing a letter urging the DNC to change the rules to make the nomination vote a secret ballot and free delegates to vote their conscience."

This comes at a crucial time for the campaign, which has been struggling since Biden's epic debate failure against Donald Trump on June 27. After that terrifying effort, many high-profile Democrats have been urging the president to step aside and allow someone else to run in his place. Biden has stalwartly refused and those close to him, namely his staff, his wife, and his vice president, have all shushed the idea that Biden would either drop out of the race or be unable to lead the nation for the next four years, into his 85th year.

The Biden camp has reportedly been reaching out to Democrat delegates slated to vote for Joe Biden at the DNC in August. During phone calls with the delegates, Biden aides have been asking questions to make sure that delegates have no intention of abandoning the president on the delegate floor.

"Do you understand what being a pledged delegate means?" The callers from the Biden-Harris delegate team ask. "Do you have any potential disagreements with the president?" And still another question posed, "Is there any reason you couldn't or wouldn't support the president at the convention?" Another delegate was asked "Do you have any concerns?" Some delegates received the loyalty call more than once, which left feelings of demoralization.

The Biden camp has reason to be alarmed. Dozens of outlets, Democrats, pundits, editorial boards and others have been either hinting or saying outright that Biden should step aside and let someone else lead the Democrat ticket in November.

Polling has shown that Democrats are open to changing candidates, even at this late juncture. Donors, pundits, comedians, actors, and ranking Democrats all believe that perhaps Biden is not the best man to beat Trump in 2024, despite Biden's continuous refrain that he's the guy who beat him in 2020.
