"This is a nightmare scenario for the Dems right now. We better pray long and hard that the country is going to be in a f‑‑‑ing depression, because I don’t know how else we find ourselves out of this mess."
An anonymous strategist told The Hill, "This is a nightmare scenario for the Dems right now. We better pray long and hard that the country is going to be in a f*cking depression, because I don’t know how else we find ourselves out of this mess."
Another Democrat strategist, Brad Bannon told the outlet, "Sadly, Democrats are still stuck in the same mud that they were in six months ago. We are still as unpopular as we were when Trump was inaugurated in January."
Another strategist said that Democrats are "in the wilderness," and referenced recent polling that shows voters are unsatisfied with Democrats.
"It’s hard to message when you’re in the wilderness, which is what we are right now. When voters don’t think that you care about their issues, and they don’t think that you’re going to fight for them, that becomes a problem," said Rodell Mollineau, senior advisor for Unite the Country, a Democrat super PAC.
One June poll found that the Democratic Party’s base does not think that the party’s leaders care about the influence of business in the US or helping families make ends meet, which were two large priorities in the poll. 62 percent of self-identified Democrats in the poll agreed that "the leadership of the Democratic Party should be replaced with new people."
The poll found a divergence between the party’s base and the party’s leadership on issues that should be focused on.
Only 17 percent of Democrats in the poll said that getting men to play in women's sports was a priority for them, however, 28 percent of Democrats in the poll said they thought party leadership was making it a high priority. 86 percent of Democrats said that taxes on the wealthy need to be a high priority, while only 72 percent of Democrats thought their party leaders saw that as a priority.
