After President Donald Trump ordered the capture and arrest of Venezuelan leader Nicholas Maduro for charges of narcoterrorism, drug trafficking, and other crimes, Democratic lawmakers want to impeach the president and remove him from office. All the while, Venezuelans around the world have been seen celebrating the fall of Maduro.

Early on Saturday, President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social, "The United States of America has successfully carried out a large scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the Country. This operation was done in conjunction with U.S. Law Enforcement. Details to follow. There will be a News Conference today at 11 A.M., at Mar-a-Lago. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP."

Maduro has since landed in the United States, and Venezuelans around the world have been celebrating the capture of the leader. Democrats, however, have taken a different tack.

Rep. Delia Ramirez (D-IL) said of the capture of Maduro that the operations were "illegal, dangerous violations of international and US law that put us all at risk."

"Trump and his Administration are out of control because they believe they are untouchable. But they are not. There are mechanisms in place to protect Americans from despots, warmongers, and authoritarians. Congress must use them. We must pass Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s War Powers Resolution that asserts our authorities, and Trump must be impeached," the lawmaker added in a statement.

Rep. Jared Huffman (D-CA) said in a statement to Axios, "We are in 25th Amendment territory now," after calling the move "truly insane."

Meanwhile, Venezuelans in the country, as well as around the US and other places, have been seen celebrating the capture of Maduro. Some have also confronted left-wing protesters railing against Trump for the capture of Maduro.

One Venezuelan journalist said to those on the left defending Maduro, "Do not for a moment let your hatred and disdain for Donald Trump have you defending the dictator of my country."
