The boat parade is also in celebration of the former president's 78th birthday.
Supporters of former President Donald Trump are set to hold a boat parade in Detroit, Michigan, celebrating his recent birthday and his scheduled presence in the city.
The “Make America Great Again” Boat Parade is being organized by the Michigan Conservative Coalition and will launch from Lake St. Clair’s shore in Macomb County on Saturday. Rosanne Ponkowski, a spokesperson for the event organizers, expressed enthusiasm for the parade in a press release, saying “Michigan, as the Great Lakes State, knows how to show off its nautical enthusiasm.”
“In that regard, nothing will do better than a massive MAGA boat parade,” she added, according to the Detroit Free Press. A similar boat parade was held in 2020, with roughly 300 boats participating.
“We have all seen television coverage of the Florida Trump flotillas and elsewhere. Frankly, the Michigan MAGA Boat Parade in 2020 was much bigger and more fun,” explained Ponkowski. “Our 2024 Michigan MAGA Boat Parade is expected to be even larger!”
The boat parade coincides with Trump’s scheduled appearances at multiple events in Detroit including a discussion at a local church and The People’s Convention, a conference hosted by Charlie Kirk’s Turning Point Action. The event is set to feature a number of conservative speakers, including Vivek Ramaswamy, Steve Bannon, Jack Posobiec, Lara Trump, and others.
While Trump will be unable to attend the parade, the Michigan Conservative Coalition said that the presidential frontrunner is aware of the event and "thinks it is fun."
Michigan is currently a critical battleground in the polls, with Trump and President Joe Biden in a deadlock. The state could be pivotal for a Trump victory in 2024, should the presumptive GOP nominee win other key swing states where he currently leads in the polls.
