"Combat fraud and those who seek to exploit vulnerabilities in our immigration system."

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has put out an open call for deportation and immigration judges. This comes as the Trump administration has been moving to increased deportations of those in the country illegally and has recently fired other immigration judges in New York City.

DHS posted to X, "YOU BE THE JUDGE. Join the Justice Department as a deportation judge to write the next chapter of America. Combat fraud and those who seek to exploit vulnerabilities in our immigration system."

The post from DHS takes social media users to a page on the website of the Department of Justice to apply to be an immigration judge at locations around the US, with a salary of $159,951 to $207,500 a year. Those who are first-time federal employees in New York, Los Angeles, Boston, San Francisco, and a few other cities also get a 25 percent base pay recruitment incentive.

There are both in-person as well as remote job listings, and those hired to the roles will "preside over cases in federal Immigration Court and determine whether an alien has to leave the United States or gets to stay."

There are 70 locations available, and qualifications include the possession of an "LL.B., J.D., or LL.M. degree" as well as being a "member of the bar, duly licensed and authorized to practice law as an attorney under the laws of any state, territory of the US, or the District of Columbia." Other qualifications include that those hired must be US citizens and must be able to pass a background check.

The callout, which says that judges will combat fraud, comes as the Trump administration has also been surging resources to Minnesota, where there have been allegations of fraud in the Somali community.
