"At least two of the individuals are confirmed Tren de Aragua members, a terrorist organization, including one that was a positive match on the Terror Screening Watchlist."
An apartment raid in Chicago that some media outlets have demonized has led to the arrest of 37 illegal immigrants, including two confirmed Tren de Aragua members, as well as other violent criminals. One of the gang members was also a positive match on the terror watchlist, DHS officials told The Post Millennial.
Officials told TPM the apartment building in Chicago's South Shore was a "location known to be frequented by Tren de Aragua members and their associates." The crimes that have been committed by all those arrested include, but were not "limited to aggravated battery, discharge of a firearm, retail theft, possession charges and possession of a controlled substance."
In addition, one US citizen was detained during the sweep, suspect arrested "had an active warrant out of Chicago for narcotics," DHS told TPM. "His RAP sheet listed a slew of serious criminal convictions for kidnapping, multiple felonies of possession of a firearm, possession of cannabis, burglary, and an arrest for delivery of a controlled substance. This subject was turned over to Chicago PD on the warrant."
Chicago officials as well as members of Congress have been critical of the raid, with Democrat Rep. Jesus Garcia claiming that the raid was not about detaining illegal immigrants, but "controlling every one of our communities, black, brown, poor, working-class," per the Chicago Sun Times.
CBP, FBI, and ATF agents were involved in the raid. This comes as the Trump administration has been pushing forward with "Operation Midway Blitz," an effort to crack down on crime as well as illegal immigration in Chicago.
