The DOJ is looking into Becca's potential links to leftist, anti-ICE activist groups and what she was doing in the moments leading up to the fatal shooting, "two people familiar with the investigation" told NBC. Becca can be seen on video filming ICE agents while taunting them as Renee sits in the driver's seat of her minivan blocking the road to impede ICE agents.
The two were using the car to impede ICE agents operations and immigration enforcement actions and when Renee was told to move her car, she refused to do so. Becca good filmed ICE agents, telling one of them "I say go and get yourself from lunch, big boy." Just before the shooting, as Renee continued to obstruct federal officers and refused to comply with their instructions, Becca yelled "drive, baby, drive."
As Renee began to drive, she struck an agent who opened fire. Renee died at the scene and the agent was treated for internal bleeding at a hospital. Becca Good's lawyer Antonio Ramanucci said "There has been no contact from the FBI or federal officials indicating Becca Good is the subject of an investigation."
Six prosecutors with the DOJ quit their jobs over the investigation into Becca Good. Following the shooting, she could be heard to say that she was the one who encouraged Renee to engage in the protest that day. Renee's six-year-old son was in school at the time and has been left orphaned.
The women were reportedly part of ICE Watch, a group of agitators, activists, and dispatchers that track federal law enforcement agents in the city, alert each other as to where those agents are, record their license plates and activities, and impeded their work. The Trump administration has deployed some 3,000 agents to the city to arrest illegal immigrant criminals.
Local law prohibits police from turning over illegal immigrant criminals to ICE, forcing ICE to go out into neighborhoods to track them down in order to enforce deportation orders. Agitators believe that illegal immigrant criminals should be allowed to continue living in the US.
Since the shooting death of Renee, there have been daily and nightly protests turning to riots in Minneapolis. Local leaders have encouraged the protests and told Minnesotans that it's their patriotic duty to go out into the street and protest.
After telling ICE "get the f*ck out of Minneapolis" during a press conference, Frey held another press conference saying that Minneapolis resident were asking local police to "fight ICE agents on the street."
"And we’re in a position right now," he said, "where we have residents that are asking the very limited number of police officers that we have to fight ICE agents on the street, to stand by their neighbors. We cannot be at a place right now in America where we have two governmental entities that are literally fighting one another."
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said he was "proud" of the protesters. He told residents "how incredibly proud I am of the way that you’ve risen to meet this unbearable moment. But I’m not at all surprised because this, this is who we are." He told them to track ICE agents and film them as they carried out law enforcement operations. Just hours later, activists rioted, looted ICE vehicles, and stole an AR-15 from an FBI vehicle.
