The billionaire said that both suspects were "mentally ill," and espoused conspiracy theories.
On Sunday, Elon Musk revealed that in recent months there have been two attempts to assassinate him in Texas.
The billionaire said that both suspects were "mentally ill," and espoused conspiracy theories about products his myriad of companies have developed.
"I have had two cases actually in just the last six months of people who are unfortunately just very mentally ill," Musk said during an X Spaces event hosted by Canadian author and professor Gad Saad, "and they have come to Austin to try to kill me with guns."
He labeled them both "extreme schizophrenics," explaining that the first would-be assassin "thought I put a [Neuralink] chip in his head."
"You gotta consider the logic of that," the Tesla CEO joked. "If I was putting a chip in to control him, it's clearly not working. Would he like an upgrade? Maybe a software update or something?"
Musk said the other suspect had suffered a "total detachment from reality" after he stopped taking his medication.
During his conversation with Saad, Musk lamented the fact that he "can't easily go to the mall or a movie theater or walk around without creating a ruckus."
When asked whether he had security, Musk said yes, adding that as a result it was very rare for him to get death threats.
The world's richest man has, however, dealt with stalkers, including one who followed him and his son, X Æ A-Xii, in their vehicle in December 2022. The incident led Musk to change X, then Twitter, policy to suspend accounts that revealed people's real-time location information.
