Colorado Governor Jared Polis said on Tuesday that his state would be shipping migrants to New York, prompting New York Mayor Eric Adams to declare that there is "no more room at the inn," the New York Post reports.

Adams renewed his call for $1 billion in emergency funds in order to provide shelter for the tens of thousands of migrants who have descended upon the city.

"We received over 30,000 asylum seekers that are in need of not only shelter, but food, education for children, health care and some of the basic items that are needed," the mayor said on WABC radio's "Sid and Friends in the Morning."

"Now, we were notified yesterday that the governor of Colorado has now stated that they are going to be sending migrants to places like New York and Chicago," he told host Sid Rosenberg. "This is just unfair for local governments to have to take on this national obligation. We've done our job. There's no more room at the inn."

"This has really impacted on the quality of life in New York, and our ability to provide everyday long-term New Yorkers on the needs that they have during this difficult time. So this must be addressed," he added.

Polis said on Tuesday that the majority of migrats who descend on his state are just pasing through on their way to other destinations, and that his government would do whatever it could "to help migrants safely reach their desired final destination."

Denver, where the majority of Colorado-bound migrants end up, is 700 miles due north of El Paso along Interstate 25. Polis said that many of the migrants whose destination is elsewhere can find themselves stuck in the city due to "weather and workforce shortages."

Texas Governor Greg Abbott continues to bus migrants out of his state to New York, among other cities. On Monday, Abbott said that he'd sent 4,900 recent arrivals to the Big Apple.

"No one should play politics with the lives of migrants who came here to escape oppression, and in Colorado, we are honoring our values of treating people with dignity and respect," Polis said in his statement.

New York mayor Adams declared a state of emergency in October, and has repetedly begged for help from the Federal and State governments to deal with the flood of migrants to his city.
