This comes amid ongoing federal and local investigations into the sex trafficking of women and minors along the avenue. Four Mexican nationals unlawfully residing in the US were taken into custody during Saturday's operation, according to ICE.
"ICE Seattle arrested four illegal aliens near the Aurora Avenue and Shoreline St. area of Seattle June 20 in a targeted enforcement operation," an ICE spokesperson said in a statement to The Post Millennial.
The apprehended subjects include the following, according to ICE:
- Emmanuel Perez-Martinez, 33, of Mexico. He is pending voluntary departure to Mexico.
- Juan Ruiz-Perez, 61, of Mexico. He will be detained at the Northwest ICE Processing Center pending return to Mexico.
- Jose Gutierrez-Villanueva, 24, of Mexico. He will be detained at the Northwest ICE Processing Center pending an immigration hearing.
- Jose Gutierrez-Diaz, 47, of Mexico. He will be detained at the Northwest ICE Processing Center pending voluntary departure to Mexico.
Federal and local authorities began surging on Aurora Avenue earlier this month following a viral neighborhood protest demanding action to address the sex trafficking of minors and violent pimp turf wars on the avenue, which have resulted in bullets frequently flying into their homes and businesses.
FBI agents and Seattle police officers have since rescued 13 children and women during the surge, with the help of outreach experts. Video footage from The Post Millennial shows authorities speaking with sex trafficking victims and transporting them to services. Seattle PD said six pimps were arrested on felony child exploitation charges during broader operations in the city.
The unlawful activity on Aurora Avenue stems from the city's decision to decriminalize prostitution in 2020. Seattle officials laid out a recent strategy to address the issue.
