On January 6, 2021, the Washington Field Office of the FBI halted the investigation into an alleged child predator in Virginia "due to events that occurred at the United States Capitol Building that day," allowing the man to seemingly assault a 10-year-old in Alaska.

According to court documents, Brogan Welsh was arrested in Anchorage, Alaska, on Oct. 19 after law enforcement found sexually explicit conversations regarding sex with minors with a man they were investigating.

Law enforcement raided Welsh's home and uncovered "sex toys that are very small in size and apparently consistent with the body size of an approximate 10-year-old boy" the document states. It was also uncovered that a 10-year-old boy was living at the residence as well.

Upon further inspection, a search warrant confirmed that Welsh appeared to be the same person in photographs sent to an undercover agent in December 2020, with whom he had been communicating to set up a meeting with the agent's fake minor son.

Before the investigation was halted on January 6, an undercover officer with the Washington Field Office allegedly began communicating with Welsh, who was using the user name "gayboy69freak" on the APP1 app, beginning on December 2, 2020.

On Dec. 17, Welsh posted two links that contained child pornography, showing young boys getting assaulted by adult men, to the group chat the agent was monitoring. The two began discussing setting up a time for Welsh to travel to the agent's home to assault his son. The conversation lasted up until Dec. 29, with Welsh graphically describing what he wanted to do to the young boy.

When asked by the Daily Wire how many other investigations got put on hold because of Jan. 6, the FBI's Washington Field Office said, "In the immediate aftermath of the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, WFO resources were surged to support the FBI’s response and investigation." It noted, "However, WFO continued to diligently pursue its ongoing investigations. While we can’t speak to the specific circumstances of this case, the FBI takes all crimes against children investigations extremely seriously, and we must follow the facts where they lead and collect enough evidence to pursue prosecution."

Since the Jan. 6, 2021 riot at the United States Capitol, there have been over 1,000 people charged in the incident. Many have accused the Department of Justice of using the event to target political opponents and give them harsh prison sentences. Footage from the Capitol was released by Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, which showed Capitol Police escorting some of the accused through the building peacefully.
